How does "The Organised Family" stay organised........some handy hints for Winter

FAMILY

Menu Planning and Fussy Eaters - I can’t stress enough the importance of a good healthy nutritious diet. Look at how your family are eating and resolve to get going with your menu planning. Involve the children in choosing meals – give them all a cookbook and ask them to find a menu that they can get excited about. Take them on a shopping trip to the fruit market and get them all to choose a couple of items that they may not have tried in the past. This is the best way to get kids to try more and expand their culinary experience. Get them in the kitchen to help you prepare the meal as well. I understand you are all thinking there is not time – but make the time once a week to get them to help. One resolution you could make this winter is to stop cooking different meals for everyone in the family – guaranteed your life will get easier.

Household Schedule - Fine tune the schedule to reflect and recurring commitments you and/or the children may have over the winter.

Health - Have you booked you children in to go and see the dentist for their yearly check up. Are you on track with your health? Is your partner on track with their health? Do a stock-take of where you are up to with everyone’s health. It is important to look after youself and your family especially in the winter months.

Winter Activities - I spoke about rituals in the Autumn posting. Winter is normally associated with more indoor activities – take the opportunity to bring out the board games – scrabble really helps the kids with their words, connect four is fantastic or even dedicate a corner of the home to having a puzzle going at any one time. Although it is a more indoors time of the year it is still important for most active children to get outside – buy yourselves some wellington boots and raincoats to go out for a great bush walk on a rainy day – you will find it really invigorating.

HOUSEHOLD

It’s All Too Much
- Call The Organised Family to help you plan for success in all areas of Home, Family and Self. You will reap the benefits and improve health, wellness, relationships and family life and it will empower you to reach your full potential in the all year round.

Garden - This is a time when all of our shrubs are more dormant however in Australia the leaves off the trees tend to still fall during winter – get the family outside every weekend and help rake the leaves to keep everything tidy – last year our kids not only helped in this way however loved the wheel barrow ride at the end of it…great time for some family photos in all of those leaves….

Household Cleaning - Towards the end of winter take time out to pull all beds away and furniture away from walls where possible. Our climate seems to lend itself to damp and the result of this is mould on the walls – this is a great time to get the sugar soap out and keep mould at bay. Also think about all the spring cleaning jobs you need to do and plan for them. Are you able to outsource some of the jobs like window cleaning and garden clean-ups (refer to the links page for recommendations) if so book the service in to come in spring time. Otherwise the earlier you plan the more you will achieve. Remember our homes are our biggest asset – we need to look after them.

Menu Planning - This is a great time of the year for warming soups and root vegetable in delicious casseroles. Think about carrots, parsnips, turnips, brussel sprouts, broccoli, apples, pears, dessert pies with custard, rhubarb and grapefruit. My kids love the ruby red grapefruit – I would suggest not to try the yellow grapefruit with children as they are very bitter. If you have not already done so think about getting that slow cooker – great for winter recipes and makes the whole process so easy.
